WHAT IS A GHOSTWRITER?
Ghostwriter is a pretty straightforward term. You would commission this ghost person to write a book, speech, newsletter, script—pretty much anything that needs to be written. They deliver it to you, and it belongs to you.
The ghostwriter signs an agreement beforehand for their discretion and confidentiality. No one has to ever know that you hired a writer. All copyright and ownership goes to you.
WHY IS GHOSTWRITING COMMON?
Ghostwriting has been around for centuries and is still popular. The president has a ghostwriter for his speeches. That celebrity memoir you read probably had a ghostwriter attached, and so did your favorite song.
Truth is, writing can be hard. Sure, you can learn to do it, but there are 113 reasons (accurate number, no need to look it up:) why so many people will write nothing more than a text or a tweet.
That’s what I’m here for. I’m going to help you take your story or idea from sliver of a thought (or maybe it’s been simmering in your head for months) to publish-ready manuscript.
WHAT DO I WRITE?
I’ve been writing for 10+ years. Predominantly, this content has been fiction short stories, but I’ve also written a slew of diverse things: newsletters, reviews, and a variety of non-fiction. For clients, I write non-fiction. The projects are usually within my specialty: short reads (40-100 pages), but I am also capable of long-form (200+ pages).
You’re probably wondering why I write fiction for myself and non-fiction for my clients. Well, it’s because I like the contrast between my personal books and the work I create for others.
WHY NOT JUST LOOK ON FIVERR FOR A WRITER?
I doubt my website is the initial place you searched for this service. Maybe you looked on Fiverr or some site like Upwork for a writer. The issue with these places is that those writers will accept any project for payment. The price may appeal to you, but trust me when I say you don’t want to decide based on that merit.
You need someone who will allow you the chance to talk about your idea and share your enthusiasm about the project. Someone who isn’t working on you and several other projects like yours at the same time because they need the cash. And there is nothing wrong with taking on projects out of necessity, but I believe the process is different in a way that I would be uncomfortable with if it were me doing the hiring.
I once helped a colleague vet writers on Upwork. They don’t care what your topic is, or why you feel the world needs your book. It was a colorless transaction.
My colleague received a finished manuscript, but the writing was bland; no heart. Then she had to turn around and pay someone for a complete rewrite.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
As an author of original works, I understand the frustrations of every stage of writing. The entire process can feel exciting, but messy and intimidating. For this reason, I like to approach every project with a series of discussions.
When we speak by phone or video, I’ll ask the questions needed to help get every fragment of the story out, as well as review any notes you may have. Next, I’ll craft a synopsis, and a chapter-by-chapter outline for review. Upon your approval, I get to work drafting.
WHAT IS THE COST?
The price depends on word count of the project, if there is an outline or not, research involved, and the timeframe I have to work with.
If you’d like an estimate, I charge $2500 for every 10,000 words. There are ghostwriters that charge upwards of $5k-$10k for every 10,000 words. That’s $25,000-$100,000 for a 200-page book. My fees are more economical, but only for a limited time.
10% of the payment is due upfront to hold your start date, and the remainder is broken up into installments paid on a timeline agreed upon by you and I. You’ll walk away with a finished manuscript you’re proud of and actionable steps to getting your book into hands and earning income from it.
MY PROMISE TO YOU:
I will be the one doing the work on your project—no one else.
I will never upsell you a service that is unnecessary
I will be honest with you every step of the way.
